I know it’s been a while since I practiced law, so I thought I’d speak as a civilian with what I hope is a modicum of common sense. In the wake of Paris Hilton’s court date yesterday, during which she received a 45-day sentence in the pokey for a probation violation stemming from a DUI, I feel compelled to mention the following:
if you’re heading to court, and you want the court to look favorably upon you, it may not be a great idea to show up ten minutes late. It makes the judge a little tetchy, and makes you look like you think you’re above the law. Gets things off on the wrong foot.
Oh, and if the judge tells you to register for some program, like, say, an alcohol education program, you’re gonna want to register for it. And then, once you register, it’s probably a good idea to complete the program.
I’m just saying.

I just wonder if this little jail stint is going to make her look at her life any differently. When she finishes her jail time she needs to have some time on the psychiatrist’s couch!
by Chicki Brown May 6th, 2007 at 4:24 pmI dunno, Chicki… I’m thinking it’d take longer than 45 days for major life changes. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s already inked the “jail memoir” book deal!

by ann May 6th, 2007 at 6:51 pmThat’s the perfect PSA, Ann. Too bad she didn’t get this ahead of time. Maybe it wil reach some of these other crazy out of control “stars.”
Thanks for the laugh.

by Gwyneth Bolton May 7th, 2007 at 10:30 amGwen, I actually feel sorry for her lawyers. I’m thinking one of them may have *mentioned* a couple of these issues to her. Just a hunch.
And thanks for stopping by!
